Do Afghan citizens need a visa to go to Canada? 

Yes, Canadian tourist visa is required for Afghan citizens.

Visa requirements for Afghanistan Nationals Travelling to Canada:

Document Validity:

  • Passports and other documents accepted for entry must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the arrival date.

Additional Information:

Afghan citizens holding a multiple entry visa are allowed to return to Canada from the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon if they are returning to Canada within the initial period authorized by a CBSA officer on initial entry to Canada. This does not apply to those who leave the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon to a third country or are transiting the USA on their return to Canada.

Afghan citizens holding a single entry visa are allowed to return to Canada after visiting the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon without obtaining a new visa, if they have not left the USA or St. Pierre and Miquelon to a third country and are returning within the period of entry authorized or within 6 months of original entry stamp.

Afghans traveling for business purposes are recommended to hold documents such as letters of invitation from the Canadian host business, letters of support from employer, copy of bills or contracts supporting the visit and contact details of the host business in Canada, in order to facilitate entry procedure.

Afghans entering Canada for a stay of 6 months or more must, on arrival, register and declare their intention to the examining officer.

Valid visas in expired passports are accepted if accompanied by a new passport.

Warning:

  • Passengers with dual nationality must arrive and depart with the same passport.
  • Visitors not holding return/onward tickets could be refused entry.
