Iran National Flag

The current national flag of Iran was adopted on July 29, 1980, following the Iranian Revolution of 1979. This flag replaced the previous national flag, which had been in use since 1964.

national_flag_of_iran.png The design of the current flag was inspired by the Islamic symbolism and principles embraced by the newly established Islamic Republic of Iran. The Iranian tricolor, consists of three horizontal bands of green, white, and red, with the national emblem centered in the white band. The national emblem was added to the white band to reflect the new political ideology and values of the country.

Here is a description of the elements of the Iranian national flag:

  • Green Band Flag of Iran: The top band of the flag is green, representing nature, fertility, and Islamic growth. Green has symbolic significance in Islamic culture, representing paradise and the Prophet Muhammad's family, specifically Imam Hussein, a revered figure in Shia Islam.

  • White Band Flag of Iran: The middle band is white, symbolizing peace, honesty, and purity. It signifies the importance of ethics and moral values in Iranian culture.

  • Red Band Flag of Iran: The bottom band is red, which symbolizes bravery, courage, and martyrdom. Red also represents the bloodshed and sacrifices made by Iranians throughout their history, particularly during the Iran–Iraq War in the 1980s.

  • Iran Flag National Emblem: Centered in the white band is the national emblem of Iran, known as the "Allah" emblem or "Allah-o-Akbar" emblem. It consists of four crescents and a central sword. The four crescents represent the principles of the Islamic faith, while the sword signifies Iran's strength and determination to defend itself.

The national flag of Iran is a prominent symbol of Iranian identity and is often seen during national events, celebrations, and official ceremonies. It represents the values, history, and aspirations of the Iranian people and their pride in their nation's heritage.
