The Chimgan tourist ski complex is located 85 km (52.8 miles) from Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, in the spurs of the Chatkal Range at an altitude of 1600 meters (5249 feet), in the Western Tien Shan mountains surrounding Tashkent. from the East.
This ski center has hotel complexes and cottages. The main peak of the entire mountainous region - Big Chimgan (3309 m - 10,856 feet) - looks like the top of a giant star, from which rays of slopes decorated with rocky peaks radiate in all directions. Rising more than 3,000 meters (9,842 feet) above sea level, the Tien Shan mountains are covered in a perpetual snow cover that descends to the foot of the mountain in winter. The ski season starts in December and lasts until mid-March.
Chimgan is called "Uzbek Switzerland" because of its appearance and healing properties. The slopes of the mountains are surrounded by relic firs. Mountains and valleys, which are popularly called "sai", are marked by mountain rivers. There are many flowers and herbs in their clean, fresh air (the word "chimgan" or "chim yon" is translated as "green grass", "green valley"). The fresh and clean atmosphere is also present in the mood.

The reservoir was created by erecting a 168 m high stone dam - Charvak Hydropower Station on the Chirchiq River, a short distance downstream from the confluence of Pskem, Ko'ksu and Chatkal rivers in the western Tian Shan mountains, which provide the main volume of water. Currently the confluence cannot be seen and all three rivers discharge directly into Charvak. The reservoir capacity is 2 km3.
Lake Charvak is the uppermost of the several reservoirs made on the Chirchiq River. Downstream, there are Khodzhikent Reservoir and Gazalkent Reservoir, which have a much smaller area.
